LinkedIn Events is one of the first products built out of the Bengaluru Research & Development Centre for a global audience.

LinkedIn, a professional networking site, is rolling out a new ‘Events’ feature, which will allow members to create and attend events.

After Linkedin’s pilot in November 2018 with a select group of members in San Francisco and New York, the product will now be available across all regions, first in all English-speaking markets on October 17, followed by non-English markets in the coming months.

LinkedIn Events is one of the first products built out of the Bengaluru Research & Development Centre for a global audience. Apart from Events, the team is developing and testing other avenues to connect members using QR codes, business cards, and proximity-based beacons. LinkedIn had an event feature in the past but was shut down later.

Ajay Datta, Head of Product, LinkedIn India, said LinkedIn has seen people are forming micro communities on LinkedIn in the last two years as people want to meet face to face.

Event organizers will have the ability to create and manage a public event page, invite their connections, and update attendees with information. Events will also provide for attendees to meet, talk to one another and see updates in the event feed, see who else is attending, and connect with other attendees they meet.

LinkedIn has more than 60 million members in India out of 645 million globally.

LinkedIn said they have made big investments to improve feed quality and new conversation tools over the past few years, such as new messaging features to relaunching Groups to new media types to threaded comments and more.
