Ooredoo Group Accelerates 5G Network Transformation with P.I. Works Artificial Intelligence

At Mobile World Congress, Go-Live with P.I. Works Sees Intelligent Automation Enhance 5G Experiences for Hundreds of Millions of Customers in MENA and SE Asia

Ooredoo Group, announced at Mobile World Congress that it is accelerating its 5G network transformation across the Middle East, North Africa, and South East Asia with Artificial Intelligence solutions from P.I. Works.

Following the successful deployment of P.I. Works’ Centralised Self-Organising Network (C-SON) solutions in Indonesia and Myanmar, which delivered strong results in optimising network efficiency and costs in a short amount of time, Ooredoo Group has rolled out the technology across all operations.

With the roll-out, hundreds of millions of Ooredoo customers in the company’s operations in Middle East, North Africa, and South East Asia are now experiencing significantly enhanced network coverage and connectivity, more advanced mobile apps, enhanced capacity during mega-events, and the enablement of 5G-based Internet of Things innovations.

In Qatar specifically, Ooredoo Group worked with P.I. Works to automate its live 5G network, a development that will help 4G and 5G technologies work together in harmony. This ensures that Ooredoo can deploy 5G throughout the country to facilitate new experiences.

Sheikh Saud Bin Nasser Al Thani, Group Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo, said: “Thanks to our partnership with artificial intelligence leader, P.I. Works, our customers around the world will enjoy superior digital experiences. It is especially exciting that this network transformation accelerates 5G roll-out across our operations, spurring our operating companies’ digital transformation, supporting our vision of enriching people’s digital lives and enabling our customers to more fully enjoy the Internet.”

Başar Akpınar, CEO & Co-Founder of P.I. Works, said: “Ooredoo Group and P.I. Works achieved a world first by using artificial intelligence and automation to unleash the full potential of Ooredoo’s entire network, including 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G. Our extensive deployment is helping Ooredoo to manage its growing mobile traffic, reduce network complexity and transform customer experiences.”

P.I. Works’ uSON platform includes standard and advanced closed-loop C-SON functions for 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile networks. P.I. Works also provides its HetNet aware optimisation capabilities, which can help Ooredoo Group operating companies to plan and manage the sites needed for small and macro cell deployments to further enhance network coverage.
