Cybercriminals create fake hack tools and game cheats to target users’ login credentials

• Researchers have uncovered fake hacking tools and game cheats for popular sites and games such as PayPal, Facebook, CamFrog, Apex Legends, and Roblox.
• These tools are touted as website hacking tools to users on the pretext of free likes, currency or rewards. However, they were found to be stealing login credentials.

What is the issue?
Cybercrooks are creating fake hack tools and game cheats for popular games and sites in an aim to steal users’ login credentials.

Why it matters?
These hack tools and game cheats are promoted as a tool for hacking sites and games in order to earn free likes, currency, or rewards, however, these tools end up stealing users’ credentials, personal information, funds, as well as drop malware.

The big picture
Researchers from MalwareHunterTeam have uncovered fake hacking tools and game cheats for popular sites and games such as PayPal, Facebook, CamFrog, Apex Legends, and Roblox.

Fake PayPal hack tool
• The PayPal hack tool uncovered by the MalwareHunterTeam claims to add free money to the users’ account.
• To do this, users had to add their username-passwords, select the country and currency, as well as choose the amount they wanted to add.
• Upon selecting all the required details and clicking the ‘Submit’ button, the tool pretends to deposit the money to users’ account, however, sends users’ login credentials to the attacker via email.

Fake Facebook hack tool
• This fake Facebook hack tool claims to increase likes for your Facebook image.
• For which, users have to provide their Facebook account information and an URL to the Facebook image.
• Upon providing the necessary details and clicking on the ‘Generate’ button, the fake tool sends users’ Facebook login credentials to the attackers.

CamFrog Pro hack tool
• The fake CamFrog Pro hack tool uncovered by the MalwareHunterTeam claims to upgrade an account to a Pro version for free.
• However, this tool steals not just users’ login credentials, but also videos and messages.

Fake Apex Legends and Roblox cheat
• Disguised as a cheat for the Apex Legends game, this tool drops malware to victims’ computer once executed.
• Similarly, the Roblox cheat application also installed malicious software, clickers, miners, trojans, and unwanted programs such as AnonymizerGadget, G-Cleaner, and SeeScenicElf on the victims’ computer.
