Nike investigates mega data breach: 1.4 terabytes on the street

Sports giant Nike has launched a comprehensive investigation into a potentially large data breach. Cybercriminal group WorldLeaks claims to have stolen 1.4 terabytes of sensitive corporate data. This includes nearly 190,000 files, ranging from product designs to confidential production process blueprints.

According to The Register, the hacker group, an offshoot of the infamous Hunters International , published evidence on its website.  According to experts, the stolen data included folders labeled “Women’s Sportswear” and “Garment Making Process.” 

There are currently no indications that customer data or personnel files have been stolen, so the damage is limited to intellectual property and strategic information.

Nike confirmed in a statement that it is investigating a “potential cybersecurity incident” but made no comment on any ransom demands. Experts warn that the theft of blueprints and prototypes could be a goldmine for counterfeiters and competitors. 

The attack comes just weeks after a major breach at Under Armour, which exposed the private data of 72 million customers.
