Sustainability at the Forefront of HP’s Agenda at GITEX Technology Week 2019

With a recyclable stand at the event, HP has reiterated its seriousness in putting sustainability at its core

During the 39th edition of GITEX Technology Week, HP Inc. has re-emphasized its continued global commitment to the environment by showcasing some of its latest and most sustainable products and services at a show stand that is recyclable.

HP propels the circular economy with products, practices, and services that let customers do more and consume less. Through one of its sustainability initiatives, the HP Planet Partner program, the company has manufactured more than 3.4 billion ink and toner cartridges using over 88,900 tonnes of recycled plastic from around 735 million recovered cartridges. Furthermore, HP has recycled 70 million apparel hangers and 3.8 billion plastic bottles to date, helping to divert on average more than 1 million water bottles per day from landfills.

Commenting on HP’s commitment, Fadle Saad, Regional Manager for GCC, Levant and Egypt said, “At HP, sustainability is deeply embedded in our business strategy, our thinking and our company culture. This clearly reflects on the products and solutions we are showcasing at GITEX this year. Locally, we have introduced some of the most sustainable products, partnered with local charities to help create a circular economy and successfully ran great recycling campaign that we are extremely proud of. For us, GITEX is not only about displaying new technology – but also focusing on sustainable ones.”

Sustainable services
Sustainability is embedded in HP’s Solutions – Managed Print Service (MPS) and Device as a Service (DaaS): HP’s MPS provides a customizable set of solutions and offers recycling for printing supplies and end-of-life management for hardware. The model helps businesses optimize their imaging and printing infrastructure and has proved to be beneficial to businesses as it has helped with reductions in printing-related energy usage of 20–40 per cent, paper waste by 25 percent, as well as imaging and printing costs by 30 percent. According to industry analysts, savings of up to 30 per cent are typical with HP’s MPS – it can further uncover hidden costs and identify opportunities for improvement, in order to build a new print environment and develop strategies to streamline workflow.

HP’s DaaS also helps to maintain an optimized and scaled personal systems fleet. The end-of-life benefit and securing asset disposal and redeploying personal system units are examples of how sustainability is deeply rooted within HP’s solutions.

Introducing sustainability design in products
Setting the scene at GITEX, HP offers more than 100,000 tech enthusiasts and business leaders a glimpse of its most sustainable products. The HP Neverstop Laser, for example, is the world’s first cartridge free printer that is made of 25 percent recycled plastic. On the PS side, the highlight is the new HP Dragonfly, the first laptop that contains ocean-bound plastics.

The HP booth, which is located at Hall 5, Stand 30 will be recycled after the event – remains of which will be used to make furniture, namely chairs and tables for schools.
