Hitachi Vantara, a subsidiary of Japanese multinational conglomerate Hitachi, took servers offline over the weekend after a ransomware attack by the notorious gang Akira, a group that specifically targets ransomware.
In a statement, Hitachi Vantara confirmed the ransomware attack to BleepingComputer . It said it had hired external cybersecurity experts to investigate the impact of the incident. The company is currently working to bring all affected systems back online.
“On April 26, 2025, Hitachi Vantara experienced a ransomware incident that has resulted in a disruption to some of our systems,” Hitachi Vantara told BleepingComputer.
“Upon detecting suspicious activity, we immediately launched our incident response protocols and engaged third-party subject matter experts to support our investigation and remediation process. Additionally, we proactively took our servers offline in order to contain the incident.
Citing a source, BleepingComputer reports that Hitachi Vantara has been targeted by Akira. The source reports that the ransomware gang has stolen files from Hitachi Vantara’s network and left a ransom demand on compromised systems.
Hitachi Vantara’s cloud services were not impacted. However, Hitachi Vantara and Hitachi Vantara Manufacturing were disrupted as part of the containment effort.
