Atlassian has released its ‘State of Teams 2025’ report, that provides key insights into AI adoption, information management, and team collaboration in India. According to the research, a remarkable 92% of Indian professionals agree that AI will improve the speed and quality of their team’s work.

The report, which gathered data from 12,000 knowledge workers across 6 regions (India, US, Australia, France, Germany, UK) and 200 executives from Fortune 500 companies, also highlights a critical need for teams to connect and organize information effectively. Globally, about 27% of work week is wasted searching for information each year within the Fortune 500.

Employees say difficulty finding information is the #1 barrier to moving fast, as 72% often find that the only way to get the information they need is to ask someone or schedule a meeting. A significant 61% of Indian respondents reported that teams at their company sometimes unknowingly work on the same things, causing duplication of work. These challenges are further compounded by a lack of goal clarity, with 90% of respondents agreeing that it would be easier to support the business if their goals and strategy were more clear.

Key India findings:

  • 87% of respondents believe AI is helping them show up as a better teammate.
  • 91% of knowledge workers believe there are probably ways they could be better using AI to discover and manage information.
  • 51% of knowledge workers believe they could work faster if their teammates used AI more.
  • More than 17 hours per week is spent tracking down information.
  • 70% agree that the functions within their company (e.g., marketing, sales, engineering, product) largely operate in silos.

Dr. Molly Sands, Head of Teamwork Lab, Atlassian commented, “Team silos hinder collaboration, create inefficiencies, and lose opportunities. Without alignment, achieving objectives and adapting to market changes becomes difficult. To remain competitive, companies need to prioritise transparency and collaboration. Connecting information and integrating AI are essential: organised information allows AI to reveal key information, enabling teams to find what they need, at the right time. The future of work is here, but to fully exploit AI, businesses must invest in the tools and training needed to unlock productivity, collaboration, and innovation.”

Atlassian’s approach to improve the state of your team

To address the challenges highlighted in the ‘State of Teams 2025’ survey, Atlassian recommends a three-pronged approach that aligns to its System of Work philosophy:

  1. Align work to goals: Create focus by defining 3-5 prioritized team goals with clear success metrics, reviewed quarterly. Document goals centrally for AI accessibility and provide monthly progress reports. Align work by nesting projects under relevant goals and regularly checking team focus.
  2. Plan & track work together: Start projects with a shared understanding: a clear brief outlining the problem, impact, and stakeholders. Define tasks and dependencies by assigning owners, defining “done,” and mapping dependencies. Learn and adapt through bi-weekly progress reviews and regular reflection rituals.
  3. Unleash collective knowledge: Prioritize asynchronous information sharing by replacing meetings with high-quality, scannable updates. Empower teams to work with AI to surface insights and automate tasks.
