Ericsson and the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) today inaugurated a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at Government ITI Govandi, Mumbai, aimed at equipping underserved & aspiring youth with industry-relevant skills on 5G and other emerging technologies.
The Centre of Excellence, located at Government ITI Govandi, Kirol, Kurla Road, Mumbai, will offer specialised training on 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), telecom product line assembly, and handheld device repair. Around 300 students are expected to benefit from the training during the first year of the programme, with a strong focus on enhancing employability and facilitating job placements upon successful completion of the courses.
India’s rapid rollout of 5G and the emergence of technologies such as IoT and advanced security surveillance are creating significant demand for skilled professionals capable of designing, deploying, operating and maintaining next-generation technology infrastructure. At the same time, the growing adoption of mobile devices is driving demand for skilled professionals in areas such as telecom product line assembly and handheld device repair.
Randeep Raina, Head of Customer Unit- Vodafone Idea at Ericsson, said ”The Centre of Excellence seeks to meet the growing industry need for skilled professionals on 5G and related technologies by providing advanced infrastructure, high-end skill laboratories and industry-aligned training programmes to youth, particularly those from underserved communities. The CoE will deliver training through industry-approved curricula designed to provide students with practical, job-oriented skills and improved livelihood opportunities.”

Through this initiative, Ericsson and TSSC aim to contribute to the development of a future-ready and industry-ready talent pool capable of supporting India’s rapidly evolving telecom and technology ecosystem. The initiative is also aligned with the broader objective of strengthening India’s position as a global hub for technology, manufacturing and skill development.
