ESET has released new updates for the ESET PROTECT Platform. The new update for business customers, among other notable changes such as new functionalities for ESET Cloud Office Security and the ESET AI Advisor, includes the Ransomware Remediation feature, a new way to prevent ransomware encryption from causing long-term business disruption.

“As cyber threats continue to evolve in scale and complexity, businesses of all sizes are under mounting pressure to ensure resilient and effective protection. Ransomware attacks, in particular, continue to pose a serious threat as cybercriminals seek to undermine every layer of a business’s security,” said Parvinder Walia, President of Asia Pacific and Japan at ESET. “In response, we’ve updated our portfolio with advanced features like ransomware remediation, which allow users to have the ability to recover critical files in the event of a ransomware attack. These updates are designed to help organisations and partners strengthen their security posture and stay ahead in an increasingly challenging digital environment.”

Enhanced Cybersecurity Portfolio

  • Ransomware Remediation (RR) is a next-gen cybersecurity feature that helps users to quickly prevent and remediate ransomware attacks. Ransomware Remediation creates secure backups of critical data and allows automated file recovery and restoration. It complements ESET’s existing real-time Ransomware Shield and minimises downtime and costs for clients. Ransomware Remediation is available at no additional cost for customers with ESET PROTECT Advanced tier and above.
  • ESET Cloud Office Security has been improved, now including new anti-spoofing capabilities to detect and block impostor messages and homoglyph protection to identify disguised malicious domains and URLs. With these new features, users can more easily prevent phishing attacks that keep plaguing their mailboxes, looking to extract sensitive information like account credentials.
  • ESET AI Advisor has received new performance updates. This generative AI-based cybersecurity assistant seamlessly integrates into the day-to-day operations of security analysts, conducting in-depth analysis. This solution is available as an add on ESET PROTECT Enterprise and ESET PROTECT Elite subscriptions.

Ransomware attacks have become particularly sophisticated, as threat actors seek to undermine every aspect of security stability that a business has. The key element of these attacks is encryption, blocking access to business systems, causing costly process disruption, and ultimately forcing firms to pay to decrypt their systems. Threat actors go as far as targeting system backups, deleting, or corrupting them, leaving nothing to chance. This makes recovery almost impossible, driving up remediation costs as well.

Unlike other solutions based on the Windows Volume Shadow Copy service, the backups created by RR cannot be abused by the attackers. RR has its own protected storage section on the drive, where files cannot be modified, corrupted, or deleted by the attacker. This actively solves one of the most common failings of regular backups during a ransomware attack. The only real limitation of the remediation function is drive-size and a single file limit of 30MB. Admins should, therefore, know which file types to add to RR’s filter to apply during its course of action.
