Nokia shows the way forward to accelerate the connected world in 5G era at Bangalore Innovation Day

Nokia today hosted an annual event Bangalore Innovation Day –  showcasing how the 5G technology can transform the way people live and work as well as enhance the industrial productivity in India. This year’s event exhibited innovative ideas focusing on the theme ‘5G IS HERE: ACCELERATING THE CONNECTED WORLD’. Honourable Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, and Minister of IT and BT, DR CN ASHWATH NARAYAN and COAI Director General, RAJAN S MATHEWS, attended and delivered the keynote speech at the event. Also present at the event were MIKKO POTSONEN – Counsellor Economic & Commercial, Finnish Embassy; RANDEEP RAINA, Chief Technology Officer, and AMIT MARWAH, Chief Marketing Officer from Nokia India.

The annual event is a platform to showcase the expertise and ingenuity of Nokia’s employees across a wide spectrum of technology areas to build the next generation intelligent machines and accelerate the connected world towards transforming technology and businesses. At the event, Nokia demonstrated 5G solutions, 5G use-cases, and many other innovative ideas. The key 5G use cases and innovations included – Throughput & Latency use case, Haptics – Remote Operations, 5G Latency – Football Goals, 360 VR Content Playback, E-Shiksha, Adaptive Traffic Management,
Drones for Public Safety, Healthcare, and telemedicine.

Nokia believes in building a strong local ecosystem by collaborating with communication service providers, start-ups and ICT companies for developing different use cases for 5G. Some of the usecases are:

 * VR/AR BASED EDUCATION – A collaborative Training use case and Scope for virtual presence for effective interaction and detailed discussion.

 * IMMERSIVE PRESENCE – 360-degree view, this use case pertains to 5G eMBB and URLLC requirement, where the high data speeds and low latency makes an individual have control of the hazardous locations/sites through robots.

 * INDUSTRY 4.0 VR COLLABORATIONS – Industry operators can do remote collaboration in Industry 4.0 evolution using this technology. This enables the industries to provide remote training with AR/VR glasses.

 * HEALTHCARE use cases such as Telemedicine and remote diagnostics

Nokia’s commitment to India is deeply engraved in the way it harnesses the potential of local talent for research and development. Nokia Bangalore R&D center is one of the four main global R&D site for the company, employing over 6000 people undertaking research in various advanced global telecommunication technologies like 2G,3G,4G,5G, Small Cells, WiFi, CDMA, Femto, Radio Platforms, Operational Support Systems, Voice & IP Transformation, Packet Core,IP Routers , Internet Of Things, Fixed Networks. The Bangalore R&D center was expanded in 2018 to focus
on next-generation technologies – cloud, ‘big data’ analytics, development of VoLTE, Software applications, next-generation core, IP, Optical and 5G.
