This new end-to-end semiconductor engineering service will help automotive OEMs take greater control of silicon development and accelerate time-to-market

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched its Custom System-on-Chip (SoC) Design Services for automotive OEMs and semiconductor ecosystem companies. This advanced range of services will help auto manufacturers conceive, design, verify, implement, and validate custom SoC solutions for the next-generation of software-defined vehicles.

The automotive industry is undergoing a shift toward centralised computing, zonal networks, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), electric mobility, and connected features. As a result, there is an increasing demand for computing systems designed for specialised workloads, high-performance requirements, and unique product roadmaps of individual vehicle manufacturers. As software takes on a larger role in vehicle functionality, automakers are seeking greater control over the silicon that supports their vehicle platforms. Custom SoCs can help them align compute capabilities with software requirements, improve performance-per-watt, and differentiate vehicle applications and user experiences.

TCS’ Custom SoC Design Services bring together semiconductor engineering, VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) design, hardware-software co-design, and system validation capabilities. The comprehensive set of services cover every stage of silicon development, including architecture, design, verification, implementation, software integration, and system validation.

Sreenivasa Chakravarti, Global Head & Vice President of Industrial Autonomy and Engineering, TCS, said, “The concept of AI-SDV driven mobility will be differentiated by the computing architecture on which it runs. The underlying SoC will play as important a role as world-class engineering in shaping the experiences that customers value and the vehicles they choose to buy. Silicon is becoming a strategic enabler of innovation, influencing everything from vehicle performance and energy efficiency to software capabilities and user experience. TCS brings together semiconductor engineering, embedded software, and systems expertise to help automakers translate their silicon strategies into differentiated mobility platforms.”

Harish B, Principal Analyst and Senior Manager, ISG, said, “The automotive industry is entering an era where semiconductor capability is becoming a source of competitive differentiation. As vehicles become software-defined and AI-driven, custom SoCs will be critical for performance, safety and efficiency. TCS’ launch of custom SoC design services comes at a pivotal time, helping automakers and Tier-1 suppliers develop purpose-built silicon and accelerate next-generation vehicle innovation.”

TCS connects silicon design with the broader product development lifecycle using its chip-to-system engineering approach. The approach is key to building the Custom SoC Design Services module. It considers vehicle architecture, software platforms, workloads, and compute requirements before defining the SoC architecture. This helps customers make silicon decisions in the context of the complete vehicle system rather than treating chip development as a standalone programme.

The services are designed to support a range of automotive applications that require increasingly sophisticated computing capabilities to meet performance, power efficiency, and safety requirements.

By combining silicon engineering with system-level expertise, TCS helps customers accelerate custom silicon programs while improving productivity, cost efficiency, and control over silicon roadmaps.

The launch builds on TCS’ semiconductor engineering capabilities and experience across advanced silicon technologies, embedded systems, chip-to-system engineering, and complex product development programs. As demand for automotive compute and mission-critical embedded systems continues to grow, TCS’ Custom SoC Design Services will help automakers translate silicon investments into differentiated vehicle platforms and next-generation mobility experiences.
